Gan Pek Chuan

Head of Sustainable and Resilient Development, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Gan Pek Chuan is the Head of Sustainable and Resilient Development at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. She is an environmental policy, management and development practitioner for over 20 years working in public and private sector. She provides policy and programme design advisory services to the Government of Malaysia and relevant stakeholders to incorporate environmental agenda such as climate change, biodiversity, land degradation, chemicals, etc. into sustainable development policies and institutional planning. Key development work that she has led are integrated landscape management for Central Forest Spine in Peninsular Malaysia and Heart of Borneo landscape in Sabah, Ecological Fiscal Transfer in Malaysia, Biodiversity Finance Initiative, Climate Promise, Integrated Island Waste Management, etc.
Prior to her work with UNDP, she worked in an environmental and geological consulting firm focusing on Due Diligence Assessment and Environmental Impact Assessment, and also served as an Environmental Auditor in a multi-national automotive manufacturer. Pek Chuan holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management from National University of Malaysia (UKM) and a B. Sc. (Honours) in Environment from University Putra Malaysia (UPM).
